FRENCH JAZZ POP SOUNDTRACK
Michel Jean Legrand (24 de fevereiro de 1932 - 26 de janeiro de 2019) foi um compositor musical, arranjador, maestro, pianista de jazz e cantor francês. Legrand foi um compositor prolífico, tendo escrito mais de 200 trilhas sonoras para filmes e televisão, além de muitas músicas. Suas trilhas sonoras para dois dos filmes do diretor francês da Nouvelle Vague Jacques Demy, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964) e The Young Girls of Rochefort (1967), renderam a Legrand suas primeiras indicações ao Oscar. Legrand ganhou seu primeiro Oscar pela música "The Windmills of Your Mind" de The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), e Oscars adicionais por Summer of '42 (1971) e Yentl de Barbra Streisand (1983).
Jacques Demy (5 de junho de 1931 – 27 de outubro de 1990) foi um diretor, roteirista e letrista francês. Ele apareceu no auge da Nouvelle Vague francesa ao lado de contemporâneos como Jean-Luc Godard e François Truffaut. Os filmes de Demy são celebrados por seu estilo visual, que se baseou em fontes diversas, como musicais clássicos de Hollywood, o realismo ao ar livre de seus colegas da Nouvelle Vague francesa, contos de fadas, jazz, mangá japonês e ópera. Seus filmes contêm continuidade sobreposta (ou seja, personagens cruzam de filme para filme), trilhas sonoras exuberantes (tipicamente compostas por Michel Legrand) e motivos como amor adolescente, direitos trabalhistas, encontros casuais, incesto e a intersecção entre sonhos e realidade. Ele foi casado com Agnès Varda, outra diretora proeminente da Nouvelle Vague francesa. Demy é mais conhecido pelos dois musicais que dirigiu em meados da década de 1960: Os Guarda-Chuvas do Amor (1964) e As Jovens de Rochefort (1967).
Michel Legrand e Jacques Demy são dois gênios, e sua colaboração merecia ser imortalizada por um magnífico livro completo.
