Night Moves estava em andamento quando o Live Bullet atingiu, e acabou eclipsando o set duplo ao vivo de qualquer maneira, então Stranger in Town é realmente o álbum em que Bob Seger começou a entender as mudanças que aconteceram quando ele se tornou uma estrela. Aconteceu quando ele tinha idade suficiente para já ter formado seu personagem. Mesmo quando a celebridade se aproxima, como em "Hollywood Nights", Seger continua sendo um roqueiro de classe média do meio-oeste, celebrando o "Rock & Roll dos velhos tempos", percebendo que as velhas paixões ainda são as mesmas e ainda se sentem como um número. Musicalmente, é tão animado quanto Night Moves, balançando ainda mais forte em alguns lugares e sendo igualmente introspectivo nos números acústicos. Se não parece tão revelador quanto aquele álbum, de muitas maneiras parece um conjunto de músicas mais forte. Sim, musicalmente não oferece nenhuma revelação,
