1984 Dolly Parton – The Great Pretender

The Great Pretender é o vigésimo sexto álbum solo de estúdio da artista americana Dolly Parto n. Foi lançado em 23 de janeiro de 1984, pela RCA Records. É composto por covers de sucessos das décadas de 1950 e 1960. O álbum foi produzido por Val Garay. Fazia uso intenso de sintetizadores e tinha um som decididamente pop. O primeiro single, um remake do hit de 1960 dos The Drifters, “Save the Last Dance for Me”, foi um single country top 10 para Parton no início de 1984 e chegou perto de chegar ao Top 40 pop também (# 45). O cover de Dolly Parton do hit de Petula Clark de 1965, “Downtown”, foi o segundo single do álbum. A música-título foi originalmente um sucesso do The Platters em 1956.
