Shane MacGowan and The Popes / The Popes

 

Vamos continuar a história do talentoso e boêmio Shane MacGowan e relembrar sua outra banda, Shane MacGowan and The Popes , que ele formou em 1993 após deixar sua banda principal, The Pogues. Segundo uma versão, o maestro deixou o grupo de folk-punk por motivos de saúde; outra, ao contrário, afirma que os outros membros da banda expulsaram o velho Shane por suas bebedeiras e estilo de vida pouco saudável. De qualquer forma, MacGowan não estava ansioso para ficar na banda por muito tempo e montou um novo grupo cuja música não era muito diferente da anterior. Entre os amigos próximos de Shane e da turma estava o ator Johnny Depp, que apareceu com a banda em vários programas musicais, incluindo o Top of the Pops, e pouco tempo depois até dirigiu um videoclipe para "That Woman's Got Me Drinking". A banda gravou dois álbuns completos, um álbum ao vivo e vários singles, após o que, na virada do milênio, chegou a um fim lógico: em 2000, Shane deixou a banda e os músicos continuaram seu trabalho, encurtando seu nome para simplesmente The Popes.
