Os álbuns de estúdio do The Cars já foram lançados em box antes -- a maioria deles apareceu na Original Album Series de 2009, enquanto em 2014 houve um box básico e barato chamado Studio Album Collection, 1978-1987 -- mas o box de 2016, The Elektra Years 1978-1987, tem uma produção impecável e foi remasterizado recentemente, duas características ausentes nos boxes anteriores. Ric Ocasek cuidou da remasterização digital, enquanto David Robinson é o diretor de arte do conjunto, supervisionando as réplicas dos álbuns originais e criando a elegante arte retrô. Infelizmente, "Tonight She Comes" — um single de sucesso presente na coletânea Greatest Hits de 1985 e nunca lançado em um álbum — não foi adicionado como faixa bônus em Heartbeat City ou Door to Door, mas essa é a única falha neste conjunto, que de resto é bem montado e acessível.
