A década de 1980 foi uma das mais marcantes da história da música pesada. Ao longo de seus dez anos, o período rendeu uma enorme quantidade de discos que se tornaram clássicos e ajudaram a moldar o hard rock, o heavy metal e outros estilos.
Escolher os trabalhos definitivos lançados entre 1980 e 1989 não é tarefa das mais simples. Ainda assim, a equipe da revista Classic Rock aceitou o desafio e publicou uma lista com os 100 melhores álbuns da década.
A seleção reúne nomes de diferentes vertentes, como Black Sabbath, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Van Halen, David Bowie, Def Leppard, AC/DC, Motörhead, Judas Priest, Queen, Pink Floyd, Rush, Scorpions, Venom e Faith No More.
