A banda Private Dicks foi formada em 1979 em Bristol. O vocalista Gavin King, que já havia tocado com o Uncle Po, formou a banda. Paul Guiver ocupou a vaga de guitarrista, e a seção rítmica veio de outra banda punk local, The X-Spurtz (o baterista Mark "Sybs" Seabright e o baixista Huw "Shugs" Davies). No final de junho de 1979, os integrantes gravaram o single "She Said Go", lançado pela gravadora local Heartbeat Records. Os músicos estavam se preparando para lançar um álbum completo, mas algo deu errado e o grupo se desfez. Vinte anos depois, a gravadora "1977 Records" lançou o álbum Homelife, da Private Dicks, que inclui faixas gravadas pela banda entre 1979 e 1980, incluindo a faixa inédita "She Said Go" e uma música da coletânea Avon Calling. A banda logo retornou aos palcos.
